100 Things...

So, I haven't written much lately. I have had kind of a block.... nothing seems worthy of commenting lately. But I figure that the only way to get past a roadblock is to go through it. 

100 things.... lots of people have done it. Here is my take. 100 things about me.

1. I wake up at 5 in the morning.... absolutely a morning person.

2.I'm usually sleepy by 8;30 or 9 at night.

3. I have to eat breakfast every morning - usually scrambled eggs and turkey bacon.

4. I've tried to be a vegetarian.

5. I love animals......I've often considered quitting my job and going to work for PETA... no joke.

6. I once got a friend kicked out of an apt. because I reported her landlord for animal cruelty.... but the puppy was saved.

7. My husband and I treat our dog like our baby.

8. Someday, I want at least two kids.

9. I already have names picked out.... but I'm not telling.

10. I love doing nothing.

11. I believe that we spend too much time "doing". We should just "be" more often.

12. I think I may have been a Taoist master in my past life. ;)

13. Earl Grey tea is my favorite with a little milk and splenda.

14. Chicken with prosciutto and mozzarella is one of my favorite dishes.

15. I love french onion soup.

16. I can't stand peas.

17. I knew I loved my husband the first moment I saw him.

18. I had more fun at my wedding than any other day of my life.... cliche I know.... but true.

19. I cried on the ride to the hotel after the reception because I didn't want it to end.

20. I feel an extreme amount of guilt if I don't visit my grandmother often enough.

21. My sister is my hero.

22. I respect my brother more than he'll ever know.... I hope one day I can let him know that.

23. I hold most of my emotions inside.

24. I take a long time to make new friends - it's not that I don't like people, I'm just guarded.

25. I will work very hard to hold onto friendships.

26. I don't believe in holding grudges.

27. I'm not very sentimental when it comes to material things. My mom can't understand why I don't want every piece of history from my childhood.

28. When it comes to decorating, I like simple and comfortable. No clutter.... no fuss.

29. One day I hope to live  in a really rustic house.

30. I love the smell of burning wood.

31. I spend too much money at yankee candle.

32. I think smell is the most underrated sense - it can change my state of mind or transport me to another time.

33. Emerson and Thoreau are two of my favorite authors. I also love Walt Whitman.... I actually want a passage from "Song of Myself" on my gravestone.( I know it sounds morbid, but it is beautiful..... read it..... the very end....."...... look for me under your bootsoles.... I stop somewhere waiting for you..."

34. I became an English teacher because of Emerson's essay Self-Reliance.

35. I love watching political thriller movies.

36. I am addicted to the show LOST.

37. When I was five, my grandparents came to visit my family in Baltimore. I packed my suitcase and told my mom I was moving back home with my nana and grandpa. I did, and my parents followed a month later.

38. I remember with strange clarity choking on a piece of pepperoni when I was little.

39. I saw my grandfather getting rushed out of his bedroom to the hospital as he was having a heart attack. That was the last time I saw him alive.

40. I've read the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert four times...... going on five.

41. I change the shampoo I use every couple of months because I like new scents.

42. I am always freezing cold.

43. I still have friends from when I was in kindergarten.

44. My parents are two of the most resilient people I know.

45. When he was younger, I called my brother "Pooh".

46. I love romaine lettuce with pecans, feta, and raspberry vinaigrette.

47. I steal recipes from my friend LL all the time.

48. I had my appendix removed.

49. I had my tonsils removed.

50. I could watch The Sound of Music on a continuous loop.

51. I take great pleasure in saving money.

52. I am way too hard on myself.

53. I am very disciplined - I can't relax until everything that needs to be done is done.

54. Though I was brought up Roman Catholic,  I converted to Unitarian as an adult.

55. Three friends and me went to church every Sunday morning all through high school.

56. When I go out for breakfast, I usually order two eggs over easy with wheat toast and home fries.

57. I've lost ten pounds on the south beach diet.

58. Since starting said diet, my husband and I have "fat Sundays" - splurge with no guilt.  ( I stole this idea from my friend Cheech)

59. I like watching Jon and Kate plus eight on TLC.

60. I walk/run 1.5 to 2 miles every morning Monday through Friday.

61. I've always wanted to learn to ballroom dance.

62. I believe simplicity is the path to inner peace.

63. I am very liberal when it comes to politics.

64.I believe people are inherently good.

65. I took ballet,tap, and gymnastics from age 5 to age 10. My favorite event was the uneven bars.

66.  I am double jointed.

67. I crack my knuckles, neck, and back. ( I know.... gross).

68. I will beg for a back rub or massage.

69. I sucked my thumb until I was 13. Though I stopped, sometimes I will wake up with my thumb in my mouth...... embarrassing.

70. I work with people whom I truly admire.

71.  I get stressed out at work because I want to be good at it.

72. If given the chance, I would travel the world.

73. My Nana and I spent seven weeks in Italy the summer before I turned 16. We went everywhere..... Pisa, Venice, Rome, Florence...... amazing.

74. We had to rush through the Sistine Chapel to make our tour bus home.

75. My husband and I went to Italy in 2002 - when we really couldn't afford it. However, I'll never regret that trip.

76. I've also been to Spain, Mexico, Switzerland,Jamaica, The Bahamas, and several US states.

77. I want to go to Paris...... 

78. Though I can't really speak a foreign language, I like to pretend I can. I use the twenty words I know in Italian, French, and Spanish whenever I get a chance.

79.  I would describe my style as comfortable or classic. I don't get into trends, and if I could wear sweats every day.....I would.

80. I think skunks get a bad wrap. I feel such sympathy for them.

81.  "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison is one of my favorite songs.

82. I love to dance.

83. I often talk to myself .....I've heard this is a sign of genius.....;)

84. I can't stand it when people talk at the movies...... so rude.

85. I try to live so that I have no regrets. It's not always easy, but I try.

86. I've realized that I'll never make everybody happy. I just have to do the best I can to do what is right.

87. Before I decided to become a teacher, I wanted to be a forensic pathologist.

88. When I still lived at home, my mom and I use to watch Everybody Loves Raymond every night.

89. I love watching stand up comedy.

90. I've grown to really like the way I look.

91. Fall is my favorite season.

92. I kiss my husband every morning before I get out of bed.

93. I wish I could be more sociable, but I've realized that I am an introverted person. I enjoy people, but I also enjoy quiet and privacy.

94. I know how to drive a stick shift.

95. I've broken my collarbone twice.

96. The house I lived in growing up was purple.

97. I like my showers really hot.

98. When I'm in the car alone, I sing really loudly.

99.  My favorite wine is Chianti Ruffino.

100.  My hair is naturally wavy, but I always wear it straight.
